Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 6, 2025
PrismScan ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our PrismScan mobile application (the "App"), including its keyboard extension and data transfer features. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
Please note that this Policy does not apply to information collected by third parties, such as Google AdMob or Firebase, which may have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review those policies separately.
1. Information We Collect
We collect limited information to ensure the App functions properly and to provide a seamless user experience. All data processing occurs locally on your device unless otherwise specified. We do not require user accounts or logins, and we do not retain any user data for habit analysis or profiling.
We may collect the following types of information:
- Scanned Data: Information from QR codes or barcodes scanned using the App (e.g., URLs, text). This data is stored locally on your device as part of your scan history and may be transferred via Wi-Fi within your local network to a computer running our proprietary receiving program at your request.
- Usage Data: Device information (e.g., device type, model, operating system version) and basic interaction data (e.g., scan timestamps and history). This helps us improve the App's functionality but is not uploaded or shared unless tied to crash reporting.
- Optional Data: Notes or additional content you manually add to scan records, which is stored locally and may be transferred via Wi-Fi within your local network to a computer running our proprietary receiving program at your request.
- Third-Party Data (AdMob and Firebase):
- Google AdMob: For displaying advertisements (e.g., when accessing certain features without purchase). AdMob may collect device identifiers (e.g., Advertising ID on Android or IDFA on iOS), approximate location data (e.g., IP address-derived country or region), and ad interaction data (e.g., views, clicks). See Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Firebase: For crash reporting and basic analytics. Firebase may collect anonymous crash data (e.g., stack traces, device state), aggregated analytics data (e.g., app installs, sessions, geographic regions), and device information (e.g., OS version, device model). This data is anonymized and aggregated. See Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, or contact details unless you voluntarily provide it (e.g., via support inquiries).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the App's scanning, keyboard, and data transfer features.
- Facilitate the optional transfer of scan results via Wi-Fi within your local network to a computer running our proprietary receiving program.
- Enable in-app purchases and ad-supported access to certain features (via AdMob).
- Detect, diagnose, and resolve technical issues or crashes (via Firebase crash reporting).
- Analyze aggregated, anonymous data on regional usage (via Firebase) to prioritize bug fixes and compatibility improvements.
- Respond to your support inquiries if you contact us.
We do not use your information for marketing, user habit analysis, or profiling. Data is not retained beyond what's necessary for these purposes.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties except:
- With Third-Party Service Providers: Limited sharing occurs with AdMob (for ads) and Firebase (for crash reporting and analytics), as described in Section 1. These providers process data per their own privacy policies.
- For Data Transfers to Computers: The transfer of scan results via Wi-Fi is performed within your local network to a computer running our proprietary receiving program and does not involve cloud services, external servers, or third-party sharing unless you choose to use a third-party service (e.g., email, cloud storage) after the transfer. Such services are subject to their own privacy policies.
- For Legal Reasons: To comply with legal obligations, such as court orders, subpoenas, or government requests, or to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or others.
- With Your Consent: For future cloud-based features (if implemented), with your explicit consent.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred, subject to similar privacy protections.
Data processed by the App itself is not shared with third parties unless required by law or as part of a user-initiated action via third-party services after local transfer.
4. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your scan history and any optional data within the App, including before or after transferring to a computer.
- Opt out of personalized ads via device settings (e.g., limit ad tracking on iOS or reset Advertising ID on Android). Purchasing the ad-free version removes ads entirely.
- Disable Firebase analytics through device settings or by contacting us. Note that crash reporting helps improve the App and is enabled by default.
- Request deletion of data collected by AdMob or Firebase associated with your use of the App. Visit Data Deletion for instructions or contact us.
- Choose whether to use the data transfer feature to send scan results to a computer via Wi-Fi within your local network.
- Exercise rights under laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or GDPR (e.g., data portability, objection to processing), if applicable.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at prismscan.com@gmail.com. We will respond within 30-45 days for formal requests.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your data, including local encryption of scan history where supported by the OS and encrypted Wi-Fi communication for data transfers within your local network to a computer running our proprietary receiving program. However, no online or offline system is 100% secure. Once data is transferred to your computer, it is no longer under our control, and you are responsible for securing it. Third-party services like AdMob and Firebase have their own security protocols; refer to their policies.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn of such collection, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians can contact us for assistance.
7. International Data Transfers
If you use the App outside the United States, third-party services (e.g., Firebase) may transfer data to the US or other countries. We rely on safeguards like standard contractual clauses for any transfers.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by posting the new policy here with an updated date or via the App. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
